SetPoint Therapy

Rheumera

Introducing SetPoint Therapy, a revolutionary new treatment for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Your Care Team at AARA is the first in Arizona to offer neuroimmune modulation as a treatment approach, activating neural pathways to modulate the immune system. The SetPoint System includes a small, rechargeable, integrated neurostimulator that is placed on the left vagus nerve to deliver precise electrical pulses to treat RA.

This device-based therapy works with your body by activating the natural immune pathways known to have an anti-inflammatory effect. These immune pathways are thought to be dysfunctional in RA patients, which causes uncontrolled inflammation, the root cause of RA.

The SetPoint Therapy may allow for a non-drug RA treatment. In the clinical study leading to FDA approval, 75% of patients did not require the addition of a biologic or JAK inhibitor at 1 year.

“Neuroimmune modulation represents a major inflection point in the treatment history of rheumatoid arthritis.”

The first step of activating your SetPoint Therapy is to discuss this new therapeutic option with your rheumatologist and their team. Once you and your provider decide this is the right option for managing your RA, they will refer you to a surgeon trained to place the SetPoint implant.

Your surgeon will meet with you for a pre-operative visit to ensure the procedure is right for you. Pre-authorization of the procedure will be done through your insurance company, and your surgical facility can provide an out-of-pocket estimate at that time. The Implant procedure will be performed by your surgeon and is normally completed in a 60–90-minute outpatient procedure, this means you typically return home the same day as the procedure and can resume activities of daily living the following day.

A couple of weeks after the implant is placed, you will return to your rheumatologist, who will activate your therapy while ensuring the stimulation is comfortable for you. Once activated, the therapy is automatically delivered for 60 seconds every day. All you need to do is charge the device for a few minutes each week. Your rheumatologist will continue to manage your RA and can adjust your therapy during follow-up appointments, if desired.
